Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to a new year at Visitation Catholic School! We are very excited to begin a new year, and we welcome our new families to Visitation. I would also like to welcome our new fifth and sixth grade homeroom teacher, Mr. Brian Meeuwsen. Mr. Meeuwsen grew up in the community of Roy and attended St. Francis of Assisi, Valley Catholic, Gonzaga University, and received a Master of Education with a Math endorsement at the University of Phoenix. Mr. Meeuwsen brings many special skills to Visitation.
I would also like to invite parents to come the Visitation Back-to-School Night this evening from 6:30 p.m.-7:45 p.m. I encourage all parents to take this opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, hear about the curriculum, grading, and homework policies for the upcoming year, and learn about ways to be involved in your child’s education. We will begin the evening in the gym and then rotate through three repeated sessions in each classroom. This will allow parents with more than one child to meet with teachers in each room. We hope you can join us!
Thank you for remembering to save the reserved parking spaces for the two families that purchased them at the auction. I appreciate your efforts to make the student drop-off and pick-up smooth and safe. A safety concern to be aware of is remembering not to drop off students in the morning until after 8:00 a.m. No supervision is available before this time so students need to remain in parent care.
Starting next week, we are beginning a First Lego League Robotics Club for students ages 9-14. The club will meet every Friday starting on Sept. 23rd from 4:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m. and will end in mid-December with entry into the local tournament. The Lego Robotics Club gives students the opportunity to build teamwork, to work on a project to solve a problem, and to build and program a robot to accomplish missions set by the tournament. I will be the coach for the team with parent advisors. The registration fee for the Lego Robotics Club is $100 per student. Limited scholarships are available. Each team for the tournament has a limit of 10 students; however, a second team may be started if there is enough interest. The registration should be turned into the school office by September 20th.
Thank you to all for helping this school year to start out well. We appreciate the furniture movers, those who organized and carried out the facilities improvements, the events planners, and so many more. This Saturday is our first pre-dinner event of applesauce making. We could use many helpers for this event and hope to see you there.
May God bless you for all you do!
Carol Funk, Principal
