Letter from the Principal.

Dear Parents,

On Friday morning, Oct. 7th, following the school Mass, Visitation Catholic School will gather as a community on the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. We will be having an all-school Mass at 8:30 A.M. followed by the recitation of the Rosary immediately after. The rosary will be prayed for the intention of our   family and the families of the world. We hope you can join us for Mass and the Rosary.

Next week the 3rd through 8th grade students begin standardized testing with  the Iowa Test for Basic Skills (ITBS). School attendance, sleep, nutrition, and hydration are especially important during the next two weeks. These tests are given for three main purposes:

  • To obtain information that can support instructional decisions made by teachers in the classroom.
  • To provide information to students and their parents for monitoring student growth from grade to grade.
  • To share and reflect on this information for improved student learning.

Standardized testing provides us with further data to help your child to succeed academically. Please help your child to be physically and mentally ready for these tests.

At the end of October, we will be having our Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences. The conferences will be held Wed., October 26 from 1:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. and Thurs., October 27 from 8:00 A.M. to 7:30 P.M. Please use the enclosed form to indicate your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd day and time choice for conferences. This form will need to be turned in by Tues., October 11th for scheduling purposes. The staff will make every effort to schedule your conference time as near to your choice as   possible. Parent-teacher conferences are very important for a child’s success throughout the remainder of the year.

Picture Day is Wednesday, October 19th this year. New to this year, students will be allowed to dress up (Formal Day) or to wear their school uniforms on picture day. What would this look like?—dress pants, dress shirts or blouses, dresses, ties. What would this not look like?—no jeans, sweatpants, T-shirts, sleeveless shirts or etc. Our goal is to give parents variety in their pictures, but at the same time for students to represent Visitation Catholic School in a positive way.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or ideas.

In Christ,

Carol Funk, Principal
