Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents,

Thank you for another successful parish dinner! The Sausage and Sauerkraut dinner was enjoyed by many guests because of the efforts of the students, parents, parishioners, and community members. We especially thank our dinner chair, Dana Vandecoevering, and co-chair, Larry Verboort, for a well organized event. Another thank you is given to Mr. Elison and the Visitation School Choir for entertaining our guests with their special performance. We thank God for blessing us with many guests.

Several facilities projects have been completed in the last few weeks. Many of you may have noticed the new lights put up in the gym and around the campus. These new lights are much more energy efficient. Also last week both the rectory and the Parish Center were painted just in time for the dinner. Both this week and next the gym will be closed for use. The gym floor is being repaired and new coats of finish are being applied.

This year as part of our Catholic Identity Ongoing Review, the teachers and staff are reviewing the school mission statement and philosophy. The mission statement of our school states “Visitation is a Catholic Parish School that prepares students to be responsible citizens and life-long learners committed to proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ”. One of the indicators for this review asks that parents and students, teachers and staff can paraphrase the mission statement if not quote it directly. In order to make it known to all, the mission statement has been posted in all classrooms and throughout the campus as well as in the newsletter and handbooks for the past few years. The students and teachers say the mission statement together daily as part of their morning routine, and as a school it is recited Monday morning at the All School Prayer  Service. Most of the students have the school mission statement memorized, but I encourage parents to check if your child can recite it away from the school setting. The mission statement and philosophy clearly identify the integration of the Catholic Faith into all aspects of Visitation’s school life.

Next week Tuesday, November 15th, the Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation will be coming to do vision and hearing screenings for our students. We are in need of three parent volunteers to assist with the screenings. If you are able to volunteer from 8:15 A.M. to approximately 1:00 P.M., please contact the school office.

Thank you for your help!

Carol Funk, Principal
