We wish to congratulate Leanne LaBonte for receiving the Visitation Catholic School Distinguished Alumni Award. Leanne received this award for dedicated service, generous support, and living the Catholic Faith. We appreciate Leanne’s help with the hot lunch program, keeping our Parish Center organized and running smoothly, and the many other services she provides to Visitation School and Church.
Thank you for helping to support our pop tab contest. With your help, the students were able to collect 151 pounds of pop tabs—truly amazing! This is 40 pounds more than last year. Congratulations go to 4th grade for collecting 60 pounds which was the most, and 1st and 7/8th grades for coming in 2nd and 3rd. Also we exceeded our school goal so all of the students have earned Free Dress on Thursday, February 9th. The pop tabs will be given to the Ronald McDonald House Charities to support their mission.
Next Tuesday we celebrate Valentine’s Day. Although little is known about the history of St. Valentine, it is believed that Valentine was a priest or a bishop who was martyred on February 14th. The Romans imprisoned him because he refused to worship their gods. The children missed Valentine and tossed loving notes between the bars of his cell window. This may explain why people exchange messages on Valentine’s Day. In another story, Valentine restored the sight of the jailer’s blind daughter. Valentine teaches us to love God by our words and example. It is a day which reminds us to love others and to treat them with respect. For our students, Valentine’s Day fits well with our Schoolwide Learning Expectations of “I love and serve God” and “I know and value the teachings of Jesus.” We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day with class parties from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. on February 14th.
Thank you to the many families that have already turned in the Letter of Intent for next year! If you still need to do so, we ask that this form be turned in by Friday so that accurate budget decisions can be made for next year.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
