Today we began the season of Lent with Ash Wednesday Mass. At this time we are reminded to grow closer to God through prayer, sacrifice, and good deeds. During this season of Lent, we can especially remember to pray for those who are suffering from extreme loss. Lent is also a time for sacrifice and good deeds. We are called to action to help build God’s kingdom here on Earth. Through actions and prayer this Lent, may we experience growth in our love for God.
This year as one of our Lenten service projects we will be raising money for Heifer International. Each grade is choosing an animal to purchase. The animal is then given by Heifer International to a family in need to increase their family income through the sale of milk, wool, honey, etc. For many families, the increase in income makes it possible for their children to attend school. Also the family that receives an animal is asked to pass on the gift to others in the village through the offspring of their animal, thus increasing the standard of living for the whole village. Over this next week, your child should have information on which animal their class is raising money to purchase. Thank you for helping us to support for this very worthwhile cause.
On Thursday, February 23rd, we would like to invite parents, students, and guests to attend the Visitation Catholic School Science Fair. Each grade, kindergarten through eighth, has either a group or individual student project for parents and guests to enjoy. The 5th through 8th grade student experiments are judged earlier in the day and the results can be viewed at the science fair. The science fair is open for guests from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. and from 5:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thank you to the parents that have volunteered to help us with judging this year. We appreciated you giving students the opportunity to present their projects for judging.
May God bless you during this season of Lent.
