Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents,

The holidays are quickly approaching and so is the excitement of the season! As a school, we are looking forward to the holiday of Thanksgiving and the season of Advent.

The students have collected many cans of food for our can food drive, and we thank all of our families for your generous donations. The cans of food will be given to the Forest Grove St. Vincent de Paul who will distribute them to those in need. At last check, the cans of food looked fairly even on the Beaver’s and Duck’s tables. We should know the final results soon!

In the Cornelius and Forest Grove community, there are many families in need who will not be able afford a special Christmas dinner or presents for their family. This year each grade will be adopting a family from our community and providing them with a Christmas gift basket. The gift basket has food for a Christmas meal and a gift for each child. As soon as they have all of the details, your child’s teacher will be sending information home about the items that need to be collected for the gift basket. This project is a very concrete way of teaching our students about providing community service to others.

As winter approaches, it is important to be aware of the school emergency cancellation procedure. In the event of an emergency closing due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, as a rule, Visitation Catholic School will follow the decision of the Forest Grove Public School District. For example, if the Forest Grove Public School District is closed due to weather, Visitation will also be closed. Radio and television information on school closures usually begins, at or before 6:00 A.M. Visitation also subscribes to the automated  emergency contact system, SchoolReach, which will be used to  support Forest Grove Public School District’s decision and for decisions that need to be made when the Forest Grove School District is already closed for other reasons. This system has the ability to call, email, and text parents for emergency and other notifications. If you have phone numbers other than those in the school directory that need to be contacted in an emergency notification, please contact the school office immediately.

I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!

Carol Funk, Principal
