Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents,

We at Visitation Catholic School wish you and your family a blessed Christmas season and a New Year filled with health, happiness and peace. May Christ, whose birth we celebrate, bless you and those you love.

The violence at Sandy Hook Elementary has filled all of us with great sadness and shock. The horrible nature of this event makes us have a sense of urgency for the safety of our children. On Friday and Monday, an email was sent to parents about Visitation’s lockdown procedures. The teachers have been trained in these procedures, and it is important for parents to be aware of them as well. For the safety of all our students,   we need to be especially careful about checking in an out of the office when visiting the school campus or when picking up or returning students. The Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Bob Mizia, has asked that all of us, teachers, parents, and students, be vigilant and report anything that seems out of place.

Talking to children about this tragedy can be especially difficult. Following are some resources that may help with talking to your children about the recent event and how to keep safe. http://www.cmionline.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Talking-With-Your-Children-About-the-Sandy-Hook-Elementary-Shooting.pdf and http://www.nasponline.org/resources/crisis_safety/terror_general.aspx  . We pray for all families and children affected by violence, and especially those in Newtown, Connecticut.

Tomorrow night we would like to invite everyone to our Christmas program, which will begin at 6:30 P.M. in the gym. We thank Mr. Elison for preparing and directing this program, and the students for working to make an outstanding musical performance. We hope you and your guests can join us.

I would like to thank everyone for supporting our service projects this    Advent season. Visitation Catholic School and Parish was able to collect many pounds of food for St. Vincent de Paul. And now, each grade is preparing a Christmas meal and presents for their adopted family. We thank you and may God bless you for your generosity towards these   special projects.

May you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
