Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents,

We wish congratulations to our 5/6th grade teacher, Mr. Meeuwsen, and his wife, Marianne, on the birth of their new baby boy, Aiden Thomas Meeuwsen! Aiden was 10 lbs. 3 oz. We wish them the best!

Also congratulations to our 8th grade girls and boys CYO basketball teams! Both teams won fourth place at the St. Paul Basketball Tournament.

On Thursday, February 21st, we would like to invite parents, students, and guests to attend the Visitation Catholic School Science Fair. Each grade, kindergarten through eighth, has either group or individual student projects for parents and guests to enjoy. The 5th through 8th grade student experiments are judged earlier in the day and the results can be viewed at the science fair. The science fair is open for guests from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. and from 5:30 to 7:00 P.M. Thank you to the parents that have volunteered to help with judging this year. We appreciate your giving students the opportunity to present their
projects.

This week, we have begun the preparation and sorting for our Rummage Sale which will take place from February 27th through March 1st. While four VIP hours are required for the Rummage Sale, we ask for all to be as generous as possible with their time. The complete schedule of sorting and sale times can be found in the school office so that everyone can find a time that works best for volunteering. I thank all parents, students, and       parishioners that have already helped with the move-in/sorting and our Rummage Sale chairs for organizing this event. The many helpers made the move-in both smooth
and quick. The Rummage Sale is worthwhile not only because it supports Visitation Catholic School (last year with $12,000), but also because it supports the surrounding community.

This year as one of our Lenten service projects, Visitation School is participating in the Oregon Food Bank Project Second Wind food drive. This food drive helps to restock the food bank shelves at a time when food donations often slow down. The Project Second Wind food drive begins on February 25th and ends on March 1st. Food items or cash donations can be brought to your child’s classroom anytime this week or next. Visitation’s school goal is 300 pounds of food and $100. For each dollar donated the Oregon Food Bank is able to distribute 4 lbs. of food. Thank you for supporting this service project and for helping to end hunger.

We are officially announcing the opening of our kindergarten position for next year. Mrs. Manning will be moving to California to join her husband at the end of this year. We thank her for her many years of service to Visitation. If you know someone who might be interested in the kindergarten position, please encourage them to send in a resume and fill out the application form. Being Catholic is required. The deadline for applications is March 11, 2013.

May God bless you during this season of Lent.
