Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents,

This Friday the seventh and eighth graders will be competing at the Northwest Science Expo at Portland State University. This is an opportunity for the students to share their science fair projects and to work on their public speaking skills. The Visitation Students will be competing against more than four hundred students from middle schools located in Oregon and Southwest Washington. We wish them the best!

The deadline for filling out the F.A.C.T.S. financial aid form on-line is April 3rd. The paper application deadline is today. The results from this application are used by Visitation Catholic School to determine the financial aid allocation for the 2013-2014 school year. Completion of this application process is necessary for aid to be given to a family, and I encourage all families to apply.

The school auction is quickly approaching. Please remember to keep looking for items to donate to the auction and to turn them in over the next few weeks. Our goal would be to make more than the $60,000 earned last year which we can do with more donations.

On Saturday, April 6th, the Washington DC kids will be hosting An Island Experience Dinner from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. This promises to be a fun evening out for the parents and families with great food. I hope many of you can attend this worthwhile and fun fundraiser. Please see the newsletter for more details.

Next week we begin Holy Week and the Easter Triduum. The Easter Triduum is a single, continuous celebration of the Paschal Mystery: the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Triduum begins with the evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday and ends with Evening Prayer on Easter Sunday. The three days are sacred time. In addition to participating in the liturgies, we try to observe the spirit of the time by setting aside normal activities like work, entertainment, and food (fasting). We do all this so that we might spend time with Christ: to serve, to suffer, to die and to rise with Him. Please help your child to remember Holy Week with special activities, especially Good Friday during the hours from 12 noon to 3:00 pm when Jesus suffered and died on the cross for us. Stations of the Cross will be said in church at 3:00 pm on Good Friday.

On Thursday, March 21st at 2:40 pm, the seventh and eighth grade with the help of the whole school will be having a Passion Play in the gym. All families and guests are invited to come participate in this special remembrance.

Report cards will be sent home with your child tomorrow, Thursday, March 21st.

I wish you a blessed Holy Week and a safe Spring Break!

Carol Funk, Principal
