Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents,

This Friday, May 31st, we celebrate the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On this day Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth, whom, as the angel had told her, God had blessed with a son in her old age. We can feel the rush of warmth and kindness, the sudden urgency of love that sent Mary hurrying over the hills to help Elizabeth. When Mary greeted her cousin Elizabeth, John leapt for joy in his mother’s womb. This feast reminds us to be charitable to our neighbors. In honor of Visitation Catholic Parish and School’s special feast, all are invited to the 8:30 am Mass followed by the rosary led by the school children.

As we approach the end of the year we have many exciting activities to look forward to. Next Thursday, June 6th at 6:30 pm, the kindergarten through eighth grade will be performing their spring musical production. The program will begin with songs by kindergarten through third grade and then continue with the play “An Island of No Return” by fourth through eighth grade. We hope you can join us for this creative and entertaining musical program.

The school budget has been approved for next year. As part of this budget, first and second grades will be separate full day. Also fifth and sixth grades will be separate half day for language arts and math. On the very positive side, we have had many new families enroll in Visitation Catholic School for the 2013/2014 school year. If you know of a family that might be interested in Visitation, please encourage them to call for a tour of the school.

Father Michael and I have reviewed the candidates that have submitted their names for the two School Advisory Committee (SAC) positions that are open. We thank all who have so generously offered their talents to these positions. Father Michael and I have accepted the nominations of Lance Daily and Stephanie Richards. We are very excited to have Lance and Stephanie join the SAC committee at the beginning of June. As they end their term, we thank Missy Klopcic and Sam VanDyke for their service to the Visitation SAC Committee and for the many ideas they have shared.

A dress code reminder, we ask all parents to please remind your child that only solid color socks of black, red, navy, khaki, white, or gray should be worn at school. Also, socks must be worn and need to cover the ankle bone. Thank you for helping your child to remember and follow this dress code policy.

As we approach the end of the year we have many exciting activities to look forward to. Please check the school calendar for class fieldtrips and many other activities.

May God bless you!

TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY FOR MAY

O most august and blessed Virgin Mary! Holy Mother of God! Glorious Queen of heaven and earth! Powerful protectress of those who love thee, and unfailing advocate of all who invoke thee! Look down, I beseech thee, from thy throne of glory on thy devoted child; accept the solemn offering I present thee of this month, specially dedicated to thee, and receive my ardent, humble desire, that by my love and fervor I could worthily honor thee, who, next to God, art deserving of all honor. Receive me, O Mother of Mercy, among thy best beloved children; extend to me thy maternal tenderness and solicitude; obtain for me a place in the Heart of Jesus, and a special share in the gifts of His grace. O deign, I beseech thee, to recognize my claims on thy protection, to watch over my spiritual and temporal interests, as well as those of all who are dear to me; to infuse into my soul the spirit of Christ, and to teach me thyself to become meek, humble, charitable, patient, and submissive to the will of God.

May my heart burn with the love of thy Divine Son, and of thee, His blessed Mother, not for a month alone, but for time and eternity; may I thirst for the promotion of His honor and thine, and contribute, as far as I can, to its extension. Receive me, O Mary, the refuge of sinners! Grant me a Mother’s blessing and a Mother’s care, now, and at the hour of my death. Amen.

HEIFER INTERNATIONAL PROJECT

Currently Visitation Catholic School’s service project is to help raise funds for Heifer International. Each class will choose their own goal and raise funds to help meet that goal. Heifer International does so much more than put food in the mouths of hungry people. The Heifer projects help people feed themselves. The goal of every Heifer project is sustainability – project partners achieving self-reliance. And year after year, as Heifer project families “pass on the gift” of knowledge and one or more of their animals’ offspring to others in need, they become links in a network of hope, dignity and self-reliance that helps hundreds of others care for themselves. Fundraising for the Heifer Project began on Tuesday, May 28th and will end on Friday, June 7th. Checks can be made payable to Visitation Catholic School.

Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to two of our students who are winners in the Oregon Catholic Schools Art Contest for Easter Season 2013: “He Has Risen!” Athena has won first place ($50 prize) and Madalyn has won second place ($30 prize) in the 4th through 8th grade category. The winning entries can be viewed on the website tchforegon.org under the News tab and then clicking Oregon.

Thank you for your help and support of the Jog-A-Thon. This year, Parents’ Club was able to double the amount raised from last year’s Jog-A-Thon! The 2013 Jog-A-Thon raised over $13,000 with 100% student participation! We have much to be thankful for including the generosity and support of our parents, parishioners, students and friends. Friday afternoon, May 31st at 2:40 pm we will be having our Jog-A-Thon Awards Assembly. Prizes are being given —for the top ten money earners, top boy and girl laps in each class, for those who received a sponsor, and more. All monies collected will need to be turned in by Friday, May 24th to count towards prizes.

We are continuing with our registration process for the 2013/2014 school year. Last week, information about tuition assistance grantswas mailed to all families applying through FACTS. We ask that the registration contract and fees be turned in by May 31st so that accurate budget decisions can be made.

Next week, we will be beginning our final service project for the year in support of Heifer Project International. Each grade will be choosing an animal that they would like to raise funds to purchase and donate to a family in poverty. The animal will help the family to have a sustainable income, and the money gained is often used to help children of the family attend school.

Please continue to remember the eighth graders in your prayers this week as they participate in their retreat activities. We pray that this will be a faith filled time of reflection and growth for them.

I wish you a safe and blessed Memorial Day weekend.
