Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents,

Thank you for a wonderful school year! It has been a pleasure and a joy to teach your children. This summer, please encourage your child to read daily and to practice a little math. This will help your child to move forward instead of experiencing the summertime lag.

Report cards will be available for parents to pick up in the school office on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, June 24th, 25th, and 26th. Any report cards not picked up by the end of the day Wednesday will be mailed.

As a reminder for those parents interested, tuition paid in full by July 1st receives a 2.5% discount, and tuition paid in full by August 1st receives a 1.5% discount. If you need more information or to make a payment please contact the school office.

We are still in need of a few more parents to help with the Field Day activities. If you are available to help with the activities on June 14th, please call the school office to have your name added to the helpers’ list. Helpers are needed from 8:25 to 11:00 for the Field Day stations. We will meet at the gym.

August 16th we will be having our annual Golf Tournament. It will be held at Quail Valley Golf Course this year. To register or for more information, please contact our development director, Lisa Meltebeke, at dd.sfa.vcs@gmail.com by August 1st.

This summer, we will be replacing the carpet in the 2nd and 3rd grade classrooms. Mrs. Anders and Mrs. McDermott could use several large boxes to pack their books. If you have any large boxes to donate, they would greatly appreciate them.

May God provide you and your family with many blessings this summer!

Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents,

The year has flown by quickly, and already we are reaching our final days of school! We wish congratulations to our eighth grade graduates as they finish their final year at Visitation. Please keep them in your prayers as they celebrate their graduation ceremony this Sunday at the 9:30 A.M. Mass.

Thank you for the wonderful Teacher and Staff Appreciation Luncheon. The food was delicious! We thank all of our parents for helping with setup, cleanup, watching the classrooms, and making the wide variety of food dishes. We appreciated the special time to eat together.

The student contracts and registration fees should now be turned in to the office. Included with this newsletter is the 2013-2014 Academic Year Calendar and 2013-2014 School Supply List. At the Back-to-School BBQ in August, parents will be given the forms for emergency contacts, directory information, etc.

For the 2013-2014 school year, we are looking to hire a part-time custodial person rather than to contract through a cleaning service. This position would be 4 hours a day on school days and include some summertime hours. The person hired for this position would be expected to provide all custodial services for the school including some outdoor cleaning and light maintenance. If you know someone who may be interested in this position, please encourage them to apply by using the Archdiocesan application form in the school office. We will be accepting applications through July 17, 2013.

As we approach the end of the year we have many exciting activities to look forward to. Thursday, June 6th at 6:30 P.M., the kindergarten through eighth grade will be performing their spring musical production. The program will begin with songs by kindergarten through third grade and then continue with the play “An Island of No Return” by fourth through eighth grade. Students should plan to meet at their assign place in the gym at 6:15 P.M. We hope you can join us for this creative and entertaining musical program.

Next week Wednesday, June 12th, at 12:30 P.M. in the gym will be Visitation’s all school Talent Show. Everyone is invited to this end of the year celebration. Also next week Friday, June 14th, is our last day of school. We will be ending our year with Field Day and a picnic lunch. The students participate in field games from 8:30 until 11:15 A.M. Then a picnic lunch is provided by Parents’ Club for all students. Dismissal time this day will be at 12:00 noon.

If the weather looks like it will be warm, Field Day may involve some water activities. Parents should send a change of clothes if your child will not be going home at the 12:00 dismissal time. Several parents are needed to help supervise the field day activities and to help with lunch. If you are available to help with the activities on June 14th, please call the school office to have your name added to the helpers’ list.

Thank you for a wonderful year, and may God bless you!

HEIFER INTERNATIONAL PROJECT

Currently Visitation Catholic School’s service project is to help raise funds for Heifer International. Each class will choose their own goal and raise funds to help meet that goal. Heifer International does so much more than put food in the mouths of hungry people. The Heifer projects help people feed themselves. The goal of every Heifer project is sustainability – project partners achieving self-reliance. And year after year, as Heifer project families “pass on the gift” of knowledge and one or more of their animals’ offspring to others in need, they become links in a network of hope, dignity and self-reliance that helps hundreds of others care for themselves. Fundraising for the Heifer Project began on Tuesday, May 28th  and will end on Friday, June 7th. Checks can be made payable to Visitation Catholic School.

Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents,

This Friday, May 31st, we celebrate the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On this day Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth, whom, as the angel had told her, God had blessed with a son in her old age. We can feel the rush of warmth and kindness, the sudden urgency of love that sent Mary hurrying over the hills to help Elizabeth. When Mary greeted her cousin Elizabeth, John leapt for joy in his mother’s womb. This feast reminds us to be charitable to our neighbors. In honor of Visitation Catholic Parish and School’s special feast, all are invited to the 8:30 am Mass followed by the rosary led by the school children.

As we approach the end of the year we have many exciting activities to look forward to. Next Thursday, June 6th at 6:30 pm, the kindergarten through eighth grade will be performing their spring musical production. The program will begin with songs by kindergarten through third grade and then continue with the play “An Island of No Return” by fourth through eighth grade. We hope you can join us for this creative and entertaining musical program.

The school budget has been approved for next year. As part of this budget, first and second grades will be separate full day. Also fifth and sixth grades will be separate half day for language arts and math. On the very positive side, we have had many new families enroll in Visitation Catholic School for the 2013/2014 school year. If you know of a family that might be interested in Visitation, please encourage them to call for a tour of the school.

Father Michael and I have reviewed the candidates that have submitted their names for the two School Advisory Committee (SAC) positions that are open. We thank all who have so generously offered their talents to these positions. Father Michael and I have accepted the nominations of Lance Daily and Stephanie Richards. We are very excited to have Lance and Stephanie join the SAC committee at the beginning of June. As they end their term, we thank Missy Klopcic and Sam VanDyke for their service to the Visitation SAC Committee and for the many ideas they have shared.

A dress code reminder, we ask all parents to please remind your child that only solid color socks of black, red, navy, khaki, white, or gray should be worn at school. Also, socks must be worn and need to cover the ankle bone. Thank you for helping your child to remember and follow this dress code policy.

As we approach the end of the year we have many exciting activities to look forward to. Please check the school calendar for class fieldtrips and many other activities.

May God bless you!

Carol Funk, Principal

TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY FOR MAY

O most august and blessed Virgin Mary! Holy Mother of God! Glorious Queen of heaven and earth! Powerful protectress of those who love thee, and unfailing advocate of all who invoke thee! Look down, I beseech thee, from thy throne of glory on thy devoted child; accept the solemn offering I present thee of this month, specially dedicated to thee, and receive my ardent, humble desire, that by my love and fervor I could worthily honor thee, who, next to God, art deserving of all honor. Receive me, O Mother of Mercy, among thy best beloved children; extend to me thy maternal tenderness and solicitude; obtain for me a place in the Heart of Jesus, and a special share in the gifts of His grace. O deign, I beseech thee, to recognize my claims on thy protection, to watch over my spiritual and temporal interests, as well as those of all who are dear to me; to infuse into my soul the spirit of Christ, and to teach me thyself to become meek, humble, charitable, patient, and submissive to the will of God.

May my heart burn with the love of thy Divine Son, and of thee, His blessed Mother, not for a month alone, but for time and eternity; may I thirst for the promotion of His honor and thine, and contribute, as far as I can, to its extension. Receive me, O Mary, the refuge of sinners! Grant me a Mother’s blessing and a Mother’s care, now, and at the hour of my death. Amen.
